There is a moment every summer when the Harvard community in Singapore gathers to do two things at once: open its arms to the newest members of the Crimson family, and send them off toward Cambridge with the warmth of home still behind them. That moment is H-Grill—and this year, under a Singapore sunset, it delivered once again.
Generously sponsored by Gondor Capital, this year’s H-Grill brought together nearly forty incoming students, current students home for the summer, alumni, and faculty for an evening that was equal parts celebration and connection. From Harvard College to the Kennedy School, Law School, and Graduate School of Education, the gathering reflected the full breadth of the University. Conversations flowed easily across years and schools—first-years swapping housing questions with Law School students, HGSE classmates trading Cambridge coffee recommendations, and alumni sharing stories that made the road ahead feel a little less daunting.
The evening had all the right ingredients: great food off the grill, easy laughter, and the kind of relaxed energy that turns strangers into friends before the night is over. There were games, playful banter, and at least one spirited contest to see who could conjure up the most impressive words starting with “H.” (The results were creative; the camaraderie was even better.)
By the end of the night, a group of students who had arrived as individuals left as a cohort—already connected, already supported, and already looking forward to the next time the Singapore community comes together.
