Harvard University Association of Alumni in Singapore (1)
Dear Members and Alumni,

Whilst we seemed to have encountered a hiccup in the gradual “re-opening” plans here in Singapore, HUAAS is still keen on continuing with more in-person programming this year, albeit it (temporarily we hope!!) in even smaller groups of five. Following the success of our first “Ideas” lunch which focused on start-ups, we plan to have this as a monthly event with different topics every time, to hopefully appeal to a wider swathe of alumni. In fact, if you have a topic you would like discussed (or to discuss!), we would be happy to organize a lunch around it!! Please just contact myself or anyone else on the committee.

HUAAS also was a co-presenter for the recent Allyship event that focused on the issue of the recent spate of Asia-American violence in the US. Our position was apolitical, and that any violent expression of discrimination or bias due to race (or for that, any other matter) is really unacceptable and should not be tolerated. the event was co-hosted by the Harvard clubs of Boston and Ireland; and if any of you are interested in the recording, please let me know.

We are also in the process of re-vamping our website to hopefully make it more user friendly and up-to-date in a more timely manner, so please watch that space.

In the meantime, please stay well, healthy and safe (and keep your sense of humor intact!!)

Best wishes,
Rebecca Woo (AB '89)
President, HUAAS

Final Call - Voting for Harvard Alumni Association (Deadline TODAY!)

Harvard Alumni Association
Please remember to vote in the upcoming election for Harvard’s Board of Overseers and Harvard Alumni Association’s Elected Directors!

The history of the Overseers goes back to the foundation of Harvard in 1636, and all its members are Harvard alumni, who are nominated and elected by alumni. It is a standout factor in Harvard’s governance that makes it unique. The Overseers’ purpose is to maintain Harvard’s academic excellence and its ability to make a difference in the world (which also reflects on our own credentials). Their primary role is to lead the academic and administrative visiting committees to the Graduate Schools and the College.

To find out more information on the Overseers candidates beyond that included with the ballot, Harvard Magazine has interviewed all the Overseers candidates and their full responses are here: https://harvardmagazine.com/2021/01/harvard-overseer-prospects-views .

Your online ballot will arrive in an email from the Elections Services Corporation (ESC) from this address: [email protected]. If you don’t receive a ballot, please check your spam folders

Let’s vote!

May 22 - Harvard Prize Book

hpb
HUAAS administers the Singapore Chapter of the Harvard Prize Book, an annual prize to recommend outstanding achievement for graduating students in Singapore. The recipient of the Harvard Prize Book (Singapore) is a caring individual who has, over a sustained period of time, gone beyond the call of duty to perform acts of kindness and caring, and who may have influenced his or her peers or family members to do likewise.

On the 22nd of May, we will have the award ceremony for this year's Harvard Prize Book, where we award the prize to 20 graduating students from JCs, Polys, and ITEs in Singapore. We will be having a guest speaker, Professor Richard Weissbourd of the Harvard Graduate School of Education who will offer a few remarks, followed by speeches from several of our recipients and lastly, informal breakout sessions amongst recipients, Harvard Prize Book alumni and committee members.

We hope alumni members can join us for this event, and you can sign up here
