Dear reader,

This is the week that Harvard students return to the Yard in full swing. Every time I think about the start of fall semester, I start to miss the Hong Kong Restaurant, which, last I checked, is still going strong. Does anyone know how to make the Scorpion Bowl?

Our events calendar through the end of year is starting to get packed. We kick off Q4 off with a pricing negotiation workshop by Claudia Winkler, who is fantastic. The Welcome To Your City event is also back and we are looking forward to meeting all those who graduated within the last 10 years.

We will also be hosting our first ever Improv workshop. The Grace Under Fire troupe is hilarious and the most gentle and supportive trainers. And you know that the mid-week laughter boost is just what you need to get you back in the game. If you're introverted and think this is not for you, think again. Some of the best improv performers are introverts who bloom every time they perform. I'm going to be there because I need my laughter fix. Will you join me?

We're also starting a literary corner with this newsletter, so check it out. There's a prize for those who manage to guess who wrote this week's poem.

Happy election day!

Welly Tantono
HCS President

Sep 7 (Thursday) - Let's Talk Money!!

Almost Sold Out

Love it or hate it, price negotiations are at the core of many business transactions. Whether you are
dealing with your commercial landlord, making an investment, closing a major deal, purchasing goods or services, or seeking fair compensation for your expertise, negotiations are inevitable. And let's be honest, most of us aren't fans of the process.

But here's some great news: Negotiation isn't an elusive art, nor is it a skill that you either possess or
lack. There's a lot of science behind it, and it's not the rocket kind!

Join us for an evening of negotiation-nerding with Dr. Claudia Winkler, an alum and international negotiation expert from Negotiation Academy where she will share essential techniques and the science that will help you:
  1. Use opening offers wisely.
  2. Develop a concession strategy.
  3. Prepare the right set of numbers.
  4. Utilize and/or protect yourself from the 'anchoring effect'.
  5. Analyze your BATNA and ZOPA before entering a negotiation.
During this interactive 90-minute session, you'll have the opportunity to engage in negotiations
yourself, while we equip you with the tools you need to significantly impact your outcome! Plus, there's a prize for the best negotiation result!
