HCS Banner
Dear Members and Alumni,

I am happy to see we continue to deepen and broaden our events calendar over the next few months; on our own and in collaboration with other alumni associations.

An integral event on the global HAA calendar is the “Welcome to your City” social, and again, we are delighted to be able to host this in person after the “COVID” hiatus - venue to be announced; but the date is set on September 29th around the world.

Please do mark November 10th in your calendars, we will be holding our Annual Dinner that evening at the Regent Hotel and we are hopeful that an esteemed Guest of Honor - a name everyone will recognize - will be attending, in addition to our 2022 Fellow T. Sasitharan. More details will be forthcoming; ticketing will also begin soon.

As you might have observed, one of our signature regular features is the “IDEAS lunch” series - we welcome any alumni / member that has a topic or person they would like to feature - please contact any of the officers and we would be happy to discuss!! Our aim is truly to involve a greater range of our alumni and would love to see broader participation from everyone - it just helps us get better and become more integrated.

Take care, and hope everyone is enjoying the summer,
Rebecca Woo
President, HCS

Aug 4-21: The Nest by Rainshadow Studios

The Nest Banner v2
Rainshadow Studios presents
THE NEST by acclaimed playwright Franz Xaver Kroetz
August 4-21, 2022
42 Waterloo St

Like all expecting parents, Kurt and Martha want the best for their baby. But they are working class and a baby is costly. What happens when an innocent side job spirals out of control? How far will the new parents go to create their ideal home?

Directed by Yale-NUS Lecturer of Theatre Jonathan Vandenberg and featuring Ethel Yap and Te Hao Boon, The Nest is a haunting parable on the tangled relationship between materialism, obedience, and ecological devastation. Written in 1974 Bavaria and locally set, this timeless play eerily resonates with the struggles of a modern family in Singapore.

The Nest is Rainshadow Studios’ inaugural event open to the public, with Scarce City — an immersive-theater-inspired strategy game on resource management — in the company’s pipeline. Rainshadow Studios harnesses the power of its multidisciplinary core team — artist Elizabeth Mak (Harvard College '12, Yale School of Drama '16), Shawn Low (Harvard College '11, Co-Founder of Better.com), and Thammika Songkaeo (former World Economic Forum Global Shaper) — to create art that confronts our relationship to the climate crisis, inspires a reimagining of a future in balance, and moves people to action.

Tickets for the play can be purchased at the-nest-sg.peatix.com, with a special 10% discount available to HCS: TNHCS10.
