SUMMARY:A Guided Tour of Silent Voices – Still Life Paintings of Pierre Boncompain\, Ziad Dalloul and Denis Lage
DESCRIPTION:A Guided Tour of Silent Voices – Still Life Paintings of Pierre Boncompain\, Ziad Dalloul and Denis LagetCome join us for an exclusive and educational tour of “Silent Voices”\, an art exhibition co-presented by Alliance Française de Singapour and Kwai Fung Hin Art Gallery\, that explores the enduring resonance of still life through the works of Pierre Boncompain\, Ziad Dalloul\, and Denis Laget. Once rooted in quiet observation\, the still life genre has evolved over centuries to reflect not only material abundance\, but also emotional depth\, formal experimentation\, and conceptual ideas.   Pierre Boncompain’s luminous compositions evoke the warmth of Mediterranean life\, blending Matisse-like simplicity with Bonnard’s harmonious palettes\, embodying his belief that “painting is creating silence”. Ziad Dalloul’s “nature silencieuse” transforms everyday objects into meditations on the intimate world of lived spaces\, expansive landscapes\, and the tension between stillness and change. Denis Laget draws from the vanitas tradition\, creating textured floral works that confront the fragility of beauty and the transience of life. Together\, their works reveal the timeless appeal of still life as a powerful medium for reflection and reinvention.   Join us for a guided tour by Ms Timmy Kam\, where she will help us to better understand and explore the unique voices of those three artists\, and how each of them redefines the still life genre in their own interesting way. This art exhibition\, which is also presented as part of vOilah! SUMMARY:Trial by Fire - A Case Study on Leadership and Resilience
DESCRIPTION:Ray Jefferson lost his hand to a grenade during military service with the U.S. special operations forces. Later in his career\, while working for President Barack Obama\, he was forced to quit public service because of false claims of ethical violations\, which were amplified in the New York Times and the Washington Post. Ray spent 8 years and his entire life savings to clear his name and received a full exoneration by the U.S. government and a de facto letter of apology. He then chose to return to public service via an appointment by President Joe Biden. \nThe HBS case on Ray’s story focuses on how do we\, as leaders\, remain resilient to overcome overwhelming adversity? It is currently being taught at HBS\, Harvard Kennedy School of Government\, Harvard Divinity School\, and Wharton Business School. Come join Ray and your fellow alumni in a closed-door session where he will share the story that’s the basis for the case followed by a Q&A session afterwards. We believe this will be a very special evening\, one that will leave us feeling inspired\, connected as a community\, and better prepared to deal with our own journeys of resilience. \nThe Chatham House Rule will apply to the event.  Due to the nature of the event and the discounts we have negotiated for the HBS case material\, this event will be exclusive to Harvard alumni.  We apologise in advance that we will not accept applications from non-Harvard alumni.  Any substitution you send due to last minute scheduling conflicts must be a Harvard alumni.  In addition\, dues-paying members will have priority in the event of oversubscription. \nIf you are not yet a dues-paying alumni\, sign up for membership here.   \n\nAbout Ray Jefferson \nRay is the President of Jefferson Group\, a Singapore-based global consultancy with a focus on the C-suite that provides customized leadership\, team\, and talent development services. He also has the privilege of receiving an appointment by U.S. President Joe Biden to serves as a member of the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships\, the United States’ premier program for leadership and public service.  \nHe is a graduate of West Point\, Harvard Business School (MBA)\, Harvard Kennedy School (MPA) ad previously served as a White House Fellow\, a Fulbright Fellow (Singapore)\, and is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations.   \nPreviously in his career\, he served as a U.S. Army officer with three elite military units; the State of Hawaii’s Deputy Director for the Department of Business\, Economic Development and Tourism; a leadership consultant with McKinsey & Company (Singapore); and the Senate-confirmed U.S. Assistant Secretary for Veteran’s Employment and Training under President Barack Obama. He was born and raised in Guilderland\, New York\, now resides in Singapore and considers his U.S. home to be Honolulu\, Hawaii.

Together with Kuo\, arguably Singapore’s most significant cultural figure\, Mr Sasitharan co-founded the Intercultural Theatre Institute (ITI)\, then called TTRP – the Theatre Training and Research Programme in 2000. With Kuo’s untimely death in 2002\, Mr Sasitharan took up the reins of the fledging institution and forged the development of a conservatory unique in the world of theatre training of actors because of its curriculum and pedagogy. ITI’s unique acting programme is characterised by its performer-centred\, practice-oriented training that emphasises intercultural work and original creation. It immerses students in classical theatre forms from Asia – such as Beijing Opera\, Kutiyattam\, Noh Theatre and Wayang Wong – and juxtaposes these intense interactions with Stanislavskian and post-Stanislavskian actor training techniques.\nMr Sasitharan is a recipient of the Cultural Medallion\, Singapore’s highest honour for artists\, in 2012 and a HCS Fellow Awardee in 2022. He is regarded by his peers and the larger arts community in Singapore as a teacher and thought leader\, who always stood for the independent and critical-minded artist\, eloquently speaking truth to power.\nHe holds a Master of Arts in Philosophy from the National University of Singapore (NUS). SUMMARY:Let's Talk Money!
DESCRIPTION:Love it or hate it\, price negotiations are at the core of many business transactions. Whether you are dealing with your commercial landlord\, making an investment\, closing a major deal\, purchasing goods or services\, or seeking fair compensation for your expertise\, negotiations are inevitable. And let’s be honest\, most of us aren’t fans of the process. \nBut here’s some great news: Negotiation isn’t an elusive art\, nor is it a skill that you either possess or lack. There’s a lot of science behind it\, and it’s not the rocket kind! \nJoin us for an evening of negotiation-nerding with Dr. Claudia Winkler\, an alum and international negotiation expert from the Negotiation Academy where she will share essential techniques and the science that will help you: \n\nUse opening offers wisely.\nDevelop a concession strategy.\nPrepare the right set of numbers.\nUtilize and/or protect yourself from the ‘anchoring effect’.\nAnalyze your BATNA and ZOPA before entering a negotiation.\n\nDuring this interactive 90-minute session\, you’ll have the opportunity to engage in negotiations yourself\, while we equip you with the tools you need to significantly impact your outcome! Plus\, there’s a prize for the best negotiation result! \n\n \nDr. Claudia is the founder and CEO of The Negotiation Academy LLC. With her outcome-oriented and creative training solutions she has helped more than 4\,500 individuals\, online in 126 countries and in-person across Europe\, the US\, Asia\, Africa\, the Middle East and Australia to boost their negotiation skills and gain an edge in their businesses or career. \nDr. Claudia holds a Master’s and Doctor’s degree in European and international law and received her LL.M. from Harvard Law School as a Fulbright Scholar\, where she trained extensively with the Harvard Negotiation Project. As a frequent speaker at legal and business conferences around the world\, she has shared a stage with leading personalities like Hugh Hilton\, Michael Douglas and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak\, inspiring audiences of 2\,500 people and above to leverage the power of negotiation skills. \nWe thank the Negotiation Academy LLC for subsidising the training and Cooley LLP for sharing with us their venue.
