HUAAS Presents – “The New Digital Future: New Capabilities. New Leaders. New Priorities.” w/ Prof Jerry Mechling AB ’65
August 12, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm SMTS$25 – S$40
Dr. Jerry Mechling, retired Lecturer in Public Policy from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, has over 50 years of practice and research on the uses of information technologies, especially in governments. As digital capabilities have grown explosively more powerful, they have been applied more extensively throughout the value chains, and seen as “disruptive” jobs, work flows, and institutions.
Interestingly, it has only been in the last ten years where we have seen new leaders come on with fundamentally different priorities. The digital future is thus actually quite new with huge stakes yet to be determined.
At Harvard, Dr. Mechling founded and directed the Leadership for a Networked World Program. He has also been an Assistant to the Mayor of New York City, a Director of the Office of Management and Budget for the City of Boston, and a Vice President for Public Sector Research at Gartner, Inc., a global firm focused on information technology issues. He graduated in the Harvard Class of 1965 where he was Harvard National Scholar, a Class Marshal, and a 3-year letterman in football. He received his Masters and PhD degrees in Economics and Public Affairs from Princeton University.
