Beyond Oppenheimer and Einstein

November 28 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free – S$10.00

The history of Harvard, Princeton and Singapore with the Institute for Advanced Study

You’ve seen the movie.  Now, get a chance to meet via Zoom, Professor Phillip A. Griffiths, the former Director of the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS), Harvard Professor and Princeton Ph.D., and in real life, Professor Gan Wee Teck (Harvard Ph.D. and former Princeton assistant professor) and Associate Professor Tan Meng Chwan, both of NUS and former members of the IAS , as they share with us the history of the IAS and its relationship to Harvard, Princeton and Singapore.

Since its founding in 1930 with Albert Einstein as one of its first 23 members. 35 Nobel Laureates, 44 of the 62 Fields Medalists, and 23 of the 26 Abel Prize Laureates, as well as many MacArthur Fellows and Wolf Prize winners have served as faculty or members of the IAS.  In addition to Albert Einstein, past Faculty have the giants of intellectual pursuit – Kurt Gödel, J. Robert Oppenheimer, Erwin Panofsky, Hetty Goldman, Homer A. Thompson, John von Neumann, George Kennan, Hermann Weyl, and Clifford Geertz.
