The HUAAS AGM was held on March 25th; it was a virtual event again and many many thanks to those who participated. We honoured Prof Wang GungWu, the renowned historian of China Southeast Asia as our second HUAAS Awardee, who spoke for a brief moment and answered a variety of questions from the audience on Chinese scholarship, the Chinese diaspora, what is the essence of being Chinese, and more.
The outgoing committee managed to have a small dinner gathering with him and our first HUAAS awardee, Noeleen Heyzer; hopefully by this time next year we will be able to host a larger gathering as we had in the past!!
In any event, I am delighted to present the current elected HUAAS Committee for this year:

Two events of import this month:
1) As the Asian American community in the US experiences acts of discrimination and racism in the US, I would like to invite you to join an upcoming event on Allyship with the Asian American community. This event will focus on how Asian Americans are looking for support in the wake of the Atlanta killings. More details below.
2) I would also like to follow up on our previous email to remind us to vote in the upcoming Harvard Alumni Association (HAA) elections. The HAA plays an important role to represent us, the alumni community, and I hope you can vote. Deadline for voting is coming up soon, on May 18th!
Otherwise, we hope to announce more events, including smaller group, in-person gatherings, over the next few weeks. If any of you use facebook, our FB page does get updated on a more regular basis as well.

So please show your support, your participation is important and that is what connects us.
Take care,

April 27 - Allyship Series: After Atlanta, How Do Asian Americans Want Us to Show Up?
HUAAS invites you to join an event on Allyship with the Asian American community. This event will focus on how Asian Americans are looking for support in the wake of the Atlanta killings of 6 Asian women a few weeks ago. Speakers include Harvard Professor Ju Yon Kim and alumna, professor and filmmaker Renee Tajima-Peña, and will delve into the history of Anti-Asian hate in America and actions we can all take to support the Harvard Asian American Alumni community.
The conversation will be facilitated by Sheryl WuDunn, author and award-winning journalist, business and finance consultant and alumni leader.

Deadline May 18 - Voting for Harvard Alumni Association
Please remember to vote in the upcoming election for Harvard’s Board of Overseers and Harvard Alumni Association’s Elected Directors!
The history of the Overseers goes back to the foundation of Harvard in 1636, and all its members are Harvard alumni, who are nominated and elected by alumni. It is a standout factor in Harvard’s governance that makes it unique. The Overseers’ purpose is to maintain Harvard’s academic excellence and its ability to make a difference in the world (which also reflects on our own credentials). Their primary role is to lead the academic and administrative visiting committees to the Graduate Schools and the College.

Your online ballot will arrive in an email from the Elections Services Corporation (ESC) from this address: [email protected]. If you don’t receive a ballot, please check your spam folders
