The Singapore Yale Alumni Association hosted its annual Day of Service on August 2nd and invited members of the Harvard Alumni Association to join. Together, more than 20 alumni from both universities volunteered at Re:Nue, dedicating nearly three hours to sorting and organizing donated items.
As they carefully handled each donation, the volunteers reflected on the stories behind the objects and shared a common realization about the importance of mindful consumption to reduce waste.
It was also encouraging to learn that Re:Nue only needs to recycle or discard approximately 10% of donated items. Many pieces that are not sellable in Singapore are given a second life oversea.
